Want A Flatter Tummy?

Plastic surgery has come a long way over the past decade. Even the tummy tuck has had a makeover of sorts, with improved definition, natural belly buttons, and flowing S curves. Depending on where you are starting and your goals, there are incredible solutions to get you the best possible body for you.

“The more I practice, the more I get excited about what I can do for my patients.” – Dr. Michael Vennemeyer

Do you want a flatter tummy? You have probably tried hitting the gym and dieting on rabbit food without sustainable or sufficient results. A good reason to stop beating yourself up is knowing exercise does not tighten skin. Core toning exercises are important and helpful to looking good and being healthy, but they have no effect on shrinking your birthday suit. In fact, skin can deflate more as you lose weight if it has poor elasticity. If your skin has been stretched too far from weight gain or pregnancy (especially repeated cycles), the elasticity is diminished, degrading skin’s ability to shrink wrap to your smaller body.  Stretch marks and thin, crpey skin are common signs of this damage.

How can you get rid of extra tummy skin?

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, directly removes extra skin so that it tightens around that area. Dr. Vennemeyer specializes in making the lowest scars possible (to hide in your underwear or bikini) and sculpting beautiful belly buttons. Some are hesitant about the scar and declare they would never get a tummy tuck for that reason. Before closing the door, consider the following: Would you be happier keeping your body in its current state for the rest of your life, or would you rather feel confident and look hotter with a scar that hides in your new bikini?

Most of our tummy tuck patients haven’t donned a two-piece in years, pre-abdominoplasty. They’re hesitant to even get their hopes up or admit they want to be able to wear one. One woman was so scar averse, she nearly didn’t have surgery, but she was so unhappy with her tummy she ended up proceeding. She scoffed about the fact she would be able to hide the low scar and remarked to Dr. Vennemeyer, “I’m 65 years old, I have no intention of wearing a bikini after my tummy tuck.”

Fast forward to her 6-week post-op visit, and the moment Dr. Vennemeyer walked into the room she burst out, “I bought a new bikini and I look AMAZING!” These are the moments everyone at Vennemeyer Plastic Surgery is passionate about sharing with our patients. We would rest our case, but we’ve only gone skin deep, so far (sorry for the cliché).

What happens to your abs during pregnancy or weight gain?

What about those core muscles? Pregnancy and weight gain force the six-pack muscles apart out of necessity to create more room in the abdomen. The muscles themselves retract well when you deliver the baby or lose weight; however, the fascia connecting them together does not. This is called a rectus diastasis—a separation of the six-pack muscles, and the effect is a bulging abdomen and larger waistline. Many women misinterpret this bulge as fat under the skin that can be removed with liposuction, so most try a boat-load of sit-ups, crunches and other tummy-torture. They are usually left feeling disempowered with a tighter bulge, as exercise tones the muscles, but fails to pull them closer together.

The solution is repairing the diastasis during your abdominoplasty. Dr. Vennemeyer stitches the rectus muscles back together, flattening your tummy, and narrowing your waist. The effect is like tightening a corset and you’ll see noticeable results.

Do you get a new belly button during a tummy tuck?

Belly buttons get their fair share of abuse, including piercing-misadventures, pregnancy, and massive weight loss. Many women are hesitant about getting a tummy tuck because they fear a Frankenstein-ish belly button, but patients at Vennemeyer Plastic Surgery rave about their new belly buttons because Dr. Vennemeyer is passionate about the details, which makes an enormous difference in your final result.

Dr. Vennemeyer has a reputation for creating incredibly natural-appearing belly buttons. Umbilicoplasty is the term plastic surgeons use to describe reviving an umbilicus that has seen better days. Dr. Vennemeyer’s proprietary technique has evolved over the years to create belly buttons with hidden scars and 3-dimensional contour, rather than a stuck-on appearance. So, get excited for not only a flatter stomach, but also a cute new belly button with your tummy tuck.

Will a tummy tuck make your waist thinner?

Abdominoplasty is a really powerful procedure when it comes to flattening your tummy, but how do you narrow your waist? The myth that targeting areas of fat excess with exercise will reduce fat in those specific areas is widespread. “Although exercise can reduce overall body fat, you cannot choose where it comes off,” explains Dr. Vennemeyer. “I can target those areas with liposuction and create the best possible shape for your body in surgery—better than what you can achieve with years in the gym.”

The best results are achieved and maintained with a combination of plastic surgery, eating anti-inflammatory foods, and physical fitness. When you add 360 core liposuction to a tummy tuck, the result is worlds better for women who have excess fat in the hips, flanks, and bra roll areas. The liposuction erases the square shape and replaces it with a more hourglass-shaped waist. Even women without very much fat can benefit if there is enough in the wrong places. Some of our thin patients ask for help improving what they feel is a boy-ish looking figure.

Dr. Vennemeyer uses a game-changing liposuction technique that is vastly superior to previous methods of lipo. By using power-assisted liposuction equipment that mechanically breaks up the fat, this leads to less traumatic, smoother fat removal. Power-assisted liposuction avoids the potentially problematic heat created by laser and ultrasonic liposuction techniques, which is desirable because excess heat can burn the skin, causing scars and hyperpigmentation (dark patches on the skin).

How does power-assisted liposuction work?

Dr. Vennemeyer uses a well-established, 3-step process that starts with separating the fat using a vibrating cannula until it is the consistency of coarse crumbs. He follows that with artistically sculpting each area of your body from multiple incision sites to get the best 3-dimensional shape possible. Gravity affects your shape differently when laying flat, so Dr. Vennemeyer places you in multiple positions to account for this and ensure you have great contours when standing. The final step is similar to the first, where fat is equalized with a vibrating cannula to correct irregularities and ensure the remaining layer of desirable fat creates a smooth contour and proper transitions between body areas.

This technique also has advantages beyond smoother contours. Dr. Vennemeyer treats the entire circumferential core as a whole, taking the result to another level beyond what you can achieve with the outdated approach of treating only the “problem areas.” The circumferential treatment enhances the ability of the skin to retract and redistribute, facilitating more profound reshaping with less risk of excess skin or contour irregularities.

Will fat grafting improve your body contour?

We’ve tightened your tummy, we’ve snatched your waist, what could be left for improvement? What is the absolute state-of-the-art way to get the best body possible? Non-ideal body contours can arise from extra skin and extra fat, as we’ve discussed, but can too little fat be a problem? YES!

The final ingredient in an amazing result is adding volume to the right places to create beautiful S curves from your waist to your hips, thighs, and butt. This is where Dr. Vennemeyer’s passion and skill really shine – he loves the opportunity to dramatically re-shape his patients using liposuction to remove excess fat and fat transfer/grafting to enhance curves, stating: “It allows me to completely re-shape women who have very square-shaped or V-shaped hips/buttocks to create a more A-shaped frame, and our patients are shocked when I tell them we can do this.”

People are just starting to appreciate the game-changing ability of fat grafting to reshape nearly every area of the body.  The synergy of even subtle amounts of addition to (fat grafting) and subtraction (liposuction) from adjacent areas is the solution for the best-possible shape for most patients. “The advances in liposuction and fat grafting techniques over the past decade have literally revolutionized the results I can achieve for my patients,” explains Dr. Vennemeyer.

One of the biggest opportunities to improve results with 360 liposuction and abdominoplasty is using fat grafting to smooth the transition from hips to thighs and thighs to buttocks to create beautiful, feminine S curves. Gluteal fat transfer, also known as a BBL (Brazilian butt lift), is an extension of this where fat is also added to the butt. Some women are afraid of fat transfer because they think they’re going to end up with a big butt. However, they are completely missing the subtle contour irregularities that exist around their lateral hips, thighs, and buttocks. While liposuction helps improve the areas that protrude too much, it fails to help the indented areas, and that’s where fat transfer allows for creating that ideal body shape.

In one procedure, you can restore breast fullness and perkiness, a flatter tummy and a smaller waist.

MOMMY MAKEOVER - TUMMY TUCK

Tummy tucks are an important part of most mommy makeovers. Although some women have tight enough skin that liposuction alone will give a good result, most women have extra tummy skin following pregnancy. Once skin is stretched and starts to sag it will not snap back. It is a huge myth that exercise will tighten skin.

This is simply not true. Yes, exercise will increase muscle mass and overall health. We encourage this wholeheartedly, but it is probably unrealistic to think that your core workout will completely flatten what your kids did to your tummy. Sorry 🙁

There are 3 major tummy problems caused by having babies:

  1. Your skin is stretched beyond its’ ability to tighten, often resulting in stretch marks.
  2. Your six pack muscles separate in the middle of your abdomen. This is called a “diastasis” and is responsible for the rounded bulge that your sit ups are not erasing.
  3. Extra fat accumulates around your waist, especially in the hip area.

Tummy tucks, also known as abdominoplasty, are designed to improve these problems, making them a valuable part of most women’s mommy makeover.

  1. Your extra skin is removed through a very low incision that will hide in a bikini for most women.
  2. Your six pack muscles are sewn together to flatten your tummy and narrow your waist. This is like tightening a corset or belt around your core on the inside.
  3. Extra fat is removed with your extra skin, but liposuction is often added to further improve your shape.

Considerations before making the decision to have a tummy tuck and mommy makeover include diet, fitness, weight (after giving birth) lifestyle, risks etc.

It is really important to be in good health before cosmetic plastic surgery. This reduces your risks and speeds the healing process. You’ll also get a better result the closer you are to your ideal weight prior to your mommy makeover. Developing good eating and exercise habits will ensure that you maintain your result, too. Check out Dr. Vennemeyer’s tips for a healthy mommy makeover in the previous article for help with this (link to previous article section on this).

Factors that influence a successful mommy makeover and tummy tuck

Getting a great result from your mommy makeover is most possible when you follow these guidelines:

Have the right operation

It’s really important to select a procedure based on your goals, while having realistic expectations. For example, if your skin is loose, but you decide to have liposuction instead of a tummy tuck because you are trying to avoid a scar, you may end up with wavy, wrinkly tummy skin that looks worse than where you started. If you have a good plastic surgeon they will guide you in the right direction in selecting a procedure that fits your goals

Be healthy before and after surgery

Remember: better health equals better healing, safer recovery and better results after a tummy tuck and mommy makeover.

Pick the right surgeon

You’ve probably seen “Botched.” Find a qualified, highly trained plastic surgeon that is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery to do your mommy makeover. For cosmetic plastic surgery, find a plastic surgeon that specializes in tummy tucks, breast augmentations, mommy makeovers, liposuction and other cosmetic procedures. Also, avoid picking your surgeon on price alone. In plastic surgery and everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

Take enough time to recover and follow directions!

Adequate recovery time is critical after a tummy tuck and mommy makeover. Your body can only heal so fast. If you overdo it you will have problems. I can not emphasize enough how important it is to read your post op instructions before your procedure several times and follow them. Patients can and do cause complications for themselves by not following simple directions after surgery.

You love your kids, right? We are guessing that you feel less affectionate about the effects of pregnancy on your body… mommy makeovers in Dallas / Fort Worth are popular procedures that address the areas most commonly affected by pregnancy—namely your breasts and tummy. In one procedure, you can restore breast fullness and perkiness, a flatter tummy and a smaller waist.

MOMMY MAKEOVER - TUMMY TIGHTENING

Many moms turn to plastic surgery for a tighter, flatter tummy and slimmer waistline. If you have loose skin, the only reliable way to tighten it is with a tummy tuck. Non-invasive skin tightening devices are in their infancy and do not work very well, in my opinion. Nothing compares to the tightening ability of a tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty.

There are some big advantages to a tummy tuck:

1.    Removes extra skin to make tummy skin a lot tighter (usually) without folds or overhanging skin.

2.    Flattens the inner core layer by pulling the six pack muscles back together—these get stretched apart when moms are pregnant.

3.    Can reshape your waist circumferentially when combined with 360 Lipo (circumferential core liposuction).

4.    Removes stretch marks on much of the tummy.

The biggest disadvantage, at first, from the perspective of most moms is the scar; however, the scar is so low it can be concealed in a bikini or panties by most patients. It also fades significantly over time. Once moms see the flat, tight tummy and better belly button, the scar is not a concern. If you are willing to trade your loose skin, stretch marks and tummy bulge for a scar you can hide, you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck.

Considerations before making the decision (diet, fitness, weight (after giving birth) lifestyle, risks etc.

When you have your tummy tuck, you’ll want to set aside adequate time to recover. Moms will need help with young children for the first 2-3 weeks. Fortunately, you are never stuck in bed and you will be walking the day of your procedure. Most women can drive within 5-10 days after a tummy tuck. Avoid lifting over 10 pounds for 6 weeks. Light cardio is possible after 3 weeks and strength training or yoga after 6 weeks.

Timing your tummy tuck to get adequate recovery time according to the recommendations above is essential to heal well. If you are planning a vacation or special event (weddings, etc.), I recommend that you give at least 6 weeks of time to make sure you are healed. Most moms feel like they look good in a bikini around 6 weeks after their tummy tuck, although times vary person to person. Be sure to use a lot of sunblock, as your tummy skin will be more prone to sunburn in the first year after abdominoplasty.

Factors that influence a successful makeover

There are several important factors that affect your final shape and result:

The amount and distribution of excess skin

  • Moms with a small amount of skin isolated to the lower tummy may be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck. This shorter scar procedure tightens below the belly button.
  • If you have loose skin above and below your belly button, a full tummy tuck will tighten your entire tummy.
  • If you have loose skin all the way around your waist from loosing significant weight, a body lift may give you a better result. This is essentially a tummy tuck that goes around the entire body.
  • If you have a lot of extra skin in the flank area, a vertical scar, in addition to the side to side tummy tuck scar, may significantly improve your shape and resulting tightness.

The amount and distribution of subcutaneous fat

  • Extra fat under your skin makes you look thicker and a tummy tuck improves that to some degree; however, if you have a relatively thick layer of fat under your tummy skin there are great options. Liposuction can remove a lot of that fat when combined with your tummy tuck to get a better, flatter result.

The amount of inside-the-tummy (visceral) fat

  • Visceral fat is the fat around your liver, intestines and other internal organs. Plastic surgeons cannot remove this safely. The only way to reduce fat inside your abdomen is through weight loss. Excess visceral fat restricts a plastic surgeon’s ability to bring the six-pack muscles back together, limiting the flattening power of the procedure. We can help you with weight loss options before surgery if this is the case, ensuring a better result.

Bone structure

  • Your hips and rib cage significantly affect the shape of your abdomen and waistline. Although we cannot change your bone structure, we can use liposuction and fat injection to enhance your waist and curves to maximize your waist to hip ratio.

Mommy makeover-what exactly is it?

In one procedure, you can restore breast fullness and perkiness, a flatter tummy and a smaller waist.

MOMMY MAKEOVER - WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?

Mommy Makeover DallasA mommy makeover focuses on two main areas that are seriously affected during pregnancy - specifically the breasts and the midsection. Because every female body is different, so is every mommy makeover.

Many women find that pregnancy and breastfeeding leave their breasts looking deflated and saggy. The breast portion of your mommy makeover procedure may include breast augmentation to restore your former fullness or to increase you to your new desired cup size. If you are happy with your size and want to be perkier, a breast lift may be the best procedure for you. A breast augmentation and lift will make you larger and perkier. If you want smaller breasts after pregnancy, a breast reduction could be part of your mommy makeover.

Now let's talk about your midsection. Many women find it very difficult getting a flat tummy after pregnancy, despite a lot of exercise, healthy diet and weight loss. If you have been doing sit-ups without results, you may have a "diastasis". This is a widening of the space between your six-pack muscles (rectus muscles). It is like someone loosened a belt around your core. During your tummy tuck, Dr. Vennemeyer will place stitches to pull the muscles closer together to tighten your core and make your tummy flatter. Any areas of excess fat around the core can be treated with liposuction to improve your shape. Dr. Vennemeyer often performs circumferential liposuction around the waist and abdomen, which he calls 360 Lipo, as part of the mommy makeovers in Dallas he performs. This can provide more dramatic results than liposuction of the hips alone.
