Voluma is a filler that works well for adding structure and volume to the face - providing a "lifting" effect. It is primarily used to add shape and volume to the cheeks, chin and jawline. It is NOT recommended for lips or superficial wrinkles.
What is Voluma?
Voluma is a filler that works well for adding structure or volume to the face, providing a “lifting” effect. It is a hyaluronic acid (HA) based filler that is made out of the same basic molecule as Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Belotero. The way the molecules are linked together in Voluma gives it special properties, giving it structural rigidity when injected. This provides the lifting effect Voluma is know for.
The different fillers are analogous to tools in a toolbox. Each individual filler has special properties that make it a great solution for different age related challenges. Voluma is no exception and should be used by an experience practitioner who understands the differences associated with different facial fillers and how best to use them.
When is Voluma used?
Voluma is primarily used to add shape and volume to the cheeks, chin or jawline. It is not recommended for lips or superficial wrinkles. Dr. Vennemeyer believes in creating very natural results and not overfilling. Because of the structural properties of Voluma, it can be used to restore a natural, youthful cheek shape. This can have a lifting effect, re-contouring the face to a more oval, less square shape.
How does Voluma work?
Voluma is injected deeper than other fillers. This helps it to lift your facial tissues while avoiding being detectable from the surface. Dr. Vennemeyer uses numbing agents to make the procedure comfortable. He then injects the Voluma in the needed areas to build a younger looking, natural cheek contour. Voluma can also be used to augment the chin or jawline, working like an injectable facial implant.
What are the advantages of Voluma treatments?
Voluma treatments are very easy procedures to have. The experience is comfortable and safe with a low risk of side effects. Voluma is long lasting and results can last up to 2 years. If you do not like the result, Voluma can be dissolved — although this is very uncommon as most patients LOVE their results.
What are the disadvantages associated with Voluma treatments?
There are no major disadvantages to Voluma when it is injected by a skilled plastic surgeon. As with any filler, Voluma must be injected in areas where it works well. It also must be injected at the proper depth and sculpted properly.
What are potential side effects of Voluma?
The most common side effects we see with Voluma are mild bruising and swelling. Since it is injected deeper than other fillers, we tend to see less bruising and swelling with Voluma compared to other fillers.
What is the typical recovery time
You can return to your normal activities immediately after a Voluma injection, but it is best to avoid exercise or heavy lifting for 24 hours after to reduce your risk of bruising and swelling. Medications for discomfort are not typically necessary after Voluma injections.
Botox and Fillers might seem to have similar applications but often there is a best application for your particular situation. Please do your research and consult with Dr. Vennemeyer before you commit to a specific approach.
