5 Responses To Plastic Surgery Shaming

5 Responses To Plastic Surgery Shaming

Dealing with shaming from others is, unfortunately, sometimes a result of getting plastic surgery. You are, of course, under no obligation to respond to them or engage with their trolling. However, if you do feel the need to stick up for yourself, your body, and your choices, here are some tips to help you out.

My Body, My Choices

My Body, My Choices
Much of the shaming women experience when they decide plastic surgery is right for them is because other people feel like they have some sort of say when it comes to your body. Don’t be afraid to remind them that this is your body and you can do what you want with it. Other people do not own it, nor do they have the right to make comments about it.

I’m Not Doing This For Anyone But Myself

I’m Not Doing This For Anyone But Myself
Some folks may comment that the choice to get plastic surgery must “be for a man” or something along those lines. For this sort of shaming, feel free to tell them, as in point one, that this is for yourself alone. The choice is not to please a man or make anyone like you, it’s because you decided it’s what’s best for your own body.

This Was Not An Impulse Buy

This Was Not An Impulse Buy
As you are likely well aware, the choice to get plastic surgery involves plenty of research and long days spent thinking about what is right for you. It’s not like rushing into Target and going on a shopping spree. Anyone who feels like shaming you with the phrase "you’re just doing it without thinking about it” clearly has not done their own research into how plastic surgery works and the process of deciding on doctors, procedures, risks, and rewards.

Yes, I Considered This Important Enough To Save Up For

I Considered This Important Enough To Save Up For
Sometimes people may disguise their shaming with phrases along the lines of “well how could you afford that!?” or “aren’t there better things to spend your hard-earned money on?” This might be a perfect time to ask such people if they’ve ever saved up for anything they considered important, like a new car or a fancy tech gadget. If something is important to you, it’s perfectly reasonable to find ways to pay for it.

This Body Is Just As “Real” As Any Other

This Body Is Just As “Real” As Any Other
People have a bad habit of shaming plastic surgery by calling it “fake” and anything else “real.” But that means everything from pushup bras, makeup, and hair curlers to tanning and Spanx can also be called “fake.” This is an arbitrary line to draw. Rather, you body is still as “real” as you say it is, and it is your choice how to frame whatever you decide to do with it.

Think You Can Spot Plastic Surgery? Think Again!

Plastic surgery is totally obvious, right? At least, that's the gist to get from folks that claim they totally know who got what done. But is it really that easy to spot? If, after all, breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery, it must be easy to spot. Not so fast.

Take a mommy makeover, for example. Every woman looks different after she's had a baby, right? But consider this, after the baby, mom is going to bounce back. Her baby bump's going to flatten and after breastfeeding her breasts will fill out again. That's entirely natural and healthy.

And it may have come from a plastic surgeon. Often, moms find that to get their natural, pre-baby figure back, augmentation is the way to go. The breasts end up looking just like they did, and any outside observer is none the wiser.

Mommy Makeover Spot Plastic Surgery

The same goes for the tummy. Of course, after the baby, mom's going to hit the gym. And she may call up the plastic surgeon, too. After a few weeks of shedding post-baby weight, she'll be back to her shapely self, and you'll think it was all long hours in the gym. But, a tummy tuck and liposuction go a long way to getting a flatter, more natural post-baby belly.

Sometimes, diastasis can cause the muscles in the stomach to spread apart. Many moms find that a tummy tuck and a little lipo tighten things up. They step out in a bikini again, and you just reflect on the hours of cardio it must have taken..

But you can totally spot a facelift, right? Consider this: one day, your coworker comes back from her vacation looking livelier and more awake. The time off has done her good, you realize.

Although, it's possible she's had a facelift. The popular idea of a facelift is far from reality. In fact, you may just chalk it up to improved makeup techniques and a spa day. Again, your friend looks natural, just like a better version of themselves.

Face Lift Spot Surgery

All of these procedures are designed to create natural figures. Your best friend isn't going to pop into the doctor's office one day and pop out looking like Jessica Rabbit. Instead, she'll just look like what she always saw in herself. And all you'll likely see is a happier, more confident friend.

Mommy Makeovers - Dallas, Fort Worth, Southlake

You love your kids, right? We are guessing that you feel less affectionate about the effects of pregnancy on your body… mommy makeovers in Dallas / Fort Worth are popular procedures that address the areas most commonly affected by pregnancy—namely your breasts and tummy. In one procedure, you can restore breast fullness and perkiness, a flatter tummy and a smaller waist.

MOMMY MAKEOVER - TUMMY TUCK

Tummy tucks are an important part of most mommy makeovers. Although some women have tight enough skin that liposuction alone will give a good result, most women have extra tummy skin following pregnancy. Once skin is stretched and starts to sag it will not snap back. It is a huge myth that exercise will tighten skin.

This is simply not true. Yes, exercise will increase muscle mass and overall health. We encourage this wholeheartedly, but it is probably unrealistic to think that your core workout will completely flatten what your kids did to your tummy. Sorry 🙁

There are 3 major tummy problems caused by having babies:

  1. Your skin is stretched beyond its’ ability to tighten, often resulting in stretch marks.
  2. Your six pack muscles separate in the middle of your abdomen. This is called a “diastasis” and is responsible for the rounded bulge that your sit ups are not erasing.
  3. Extra fat accumulates around your waist, especially in the hip area.

Tummy tucks, also known as abdominoplasty, are designed to improve these problems, making them a valuable part of most women’s mommy makeover.

  1. Your extra skin is removed through a very low incision that will hide in a bikini for most women.
  2. Your six pack muscles are sewn together to flatten your tummy and narrow your waist. This is like tightening a corset or belt around your core on the inside.
  3. Extra fat is removed with your extra skin, but liposuction is often added to further improve your shape.

Considerations before making the decision to have a tummy tuck and mommy makeover include diet, fitness, weight (after giving birth) lifestyle, risks etc.

It is really important to be in good health before cosmetic plastic surgery. This reduces your risks and speeds the healing process. You’ll also get a better result the closer you are to your ideal weight prior to your mommy makeover. Developing good eating and exercise habits will ensure that you maintain your result, too. Check out Dr. Vennemeyer’s tips for a healthy mommy makeover in the previous article for help with this (link to previous article section on this).

Factors that influence a successful mommy makeover and tummy tuck

Getting a great result from your mommy makeover is most possible when you follow these guidelines:

Have the right operation

It’s really important to select a procedure based on your goals, while having realistic expectations. For example, if your skin is loose, but you decide to have liposuction instead of a tummy tuck because you are trying to avoid a scar, you may end up with wavy, wrinkly tummy skin that looks worse than where you started. If you have a good plastic surgeon they will guide you in the right direction in selecting a procedure that fits your goals

Be healthy before and after surgery

Remember: better health equals better healing, safer recovery and better results after a tummy tuck and mommy makeover.

Pick the right surgeon

You’ve probably seen “Botched.” Find a qualified, highly trained plastic surgeon that is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery to do your mommy makeover. For cosmetic plastic surgery, find a plastic surgeon that specializes in tummy tucks, breast augmentations, mommy makeovers, liposuction and other cosmetic procedures. Also, avoid picking your surgeon on price alone. In plastic surgery and everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

Take enough time to recover and follow directions!

Adequate recovery time is critical after a tummy tuck and mommy makeover. Your body can only heal so fast. If you overdo it you will have problems. I can not emphasize enough how important it is to read your post op instructions before your procedure several times and follow them. Patients can and do cause complications for themselves by not following simple directions after surgery.

MOMMY MAKEOVER - TUMMY TIGHTENING

Many moms turn to plastic surgery for a tighter, flatter tummy and slimmer waistline. If you have loose skin, the only reliable way to tighten it is with a tummy tuck. Non-invasive skin tightening devices are in their infancy and do not work very well, in my opinion. Nothing compares to the tightening ability of a tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty.

There are some big advantages to a tummy tuck:

1.    Removes extra skin to make tummy skin a lot tighter (usually) without folds or overhanging skin.

2.    Flattens the inner core layer by pulling the six pack muscles back together—these get stretched apart when moms are pregnant.

3.    Can reshape your waist circumferentially when combined with 360 Lipo (circumferential core liposuction).

4.    Removes stretch marks on much of the tummy.

The biggest disadvantage, at first, from the perspective of most moms is the scar; however, the scar is so low it can be concealed in a bikini or panties by most patients. It also fades significantly over time. Once moms see the flat, tight tummy and better belly button, the scar is not a concern. If you are willing to trade your loose skin, stretch marks and tummy bulge for a scar you can hide, you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck.

Considerations before making the decision (diet, fitness, weight (after giving birth) lifestyle, risks etc.

When you have your tummy tuck, you’ll want to set aside adequate time to recover. Moms will need help with young children for the first 2-3 weeks. Fortunately, you are never stuck in bed and you will be walking the day of your procedure. Most women can drive within 5-10 days after a tummy tuck. Avoid lifting over 10 pounds for 6 weeks. Light cardio is possible after 3 weeks and strength training or yoga after 6 weeks.

Timing your tummy tuck to get adequate recovery time according to the recommendations above is essential to heal well. If you are planning a vacation or special event (weddings, etc.), I recommend that you give at least 6 weeks of time to make sure you are healed. Most moms feel like they look good in a bikini around 6 weeks after their tummy tuck, although times vary person to person. Be sure to use a lot of sunblock, as your tummy skin will be more prone to sunburn in the first year after abdominoplasty.

Factors that influence a successful makeover

There are several important factors that affect your final shape and result:

The amount and distribution of excess skin

  • Moms with a small amount of skin isolated to the lower tummy may be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck. This shorter scar procedure tightens below the belly button.
  • If you have loose skin above and below your belly button, a full tummy tuck will tighten your entire tummy.
  • If you have loose skin all the way around your waist from loosing significant weight, a body lift may give you a better result. This is essentially a tummy tuck that goes around the entire body.
  • If you have a lot of extra skin in the flank area, a vertical scar, in addition to the side to side tummy tuck scar, may significantly improve your shape and resulting tightness.

The amount and distribution of subcutaneous fat

  • Extra fat under your skin makes you look thicker and a tummy tuck improves that to some degree; however, if you have a relatively thick layer of fat under your tummy skin there are great options. Liposuction can remove a lot of that fat when combined with your tummy tuck to get a better, flatter result.

The amount of inside-the-tummy (visceral) fat

  • Visceral fat is the fat around your liver, intestines and other internal organs. Plastic surgeons cannot remove this safely. The only way to reduce fat inside your abdomen is through weight loss. Excess visceral fat restricts a plastic surgeon’s ability to bring the six-pack muscles back together, limiting the flattening power of the procedure. We can help you with weight loss options before surgery if this is the case, ensuring a better result.

Bone structure

  • Your hips and rib cage significantly affect the shape of your abdomen and waistline. Although we cannot change your bone structure, we can use liposuction and fat injection to enhance your waist and curves to maximize your waist to hip ratio.

Mommy makeover-what exactly is it?

In one procedure, you can restore breast fullness and perkiness, a flatter tummy and a smaller waist.

MOMMY MAKEOVER - WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?

Mommy Makeover DallasA mommy makeover focuses on two main areas that are seriously affected during pregnancy - specifically the breasts and the midsection. Because every female body is different, so is every mommy makeover.

Many women find that pregnancy and breastfeeding leave their breasts looking deflated and saggy. The breast portion of your mommy makeover procedure may include breast augmentation to restore your former fullness or to increase you to your new desired cup size. If you are happy with your size and want to be perkier, a breast lift may be the best procedure for you. A breast augmentation and lift will make you larger and perkier. If you want smaller breasts after pregnancy, a breast reduction could be part of your mommy makeover.

Now let's talk about your midsection. Many women find it very difficult getting a flat tummy after pregnancy, despite a lot of exercise, healthy diet and weight loss. If you have been doing sit-ups without results, you may have a "diastasis". This is a widening of the space between your six-pack muscles (rectus muscles). It is like someone loosened a belt around your core. During your tummy tuck, Dr. Vennemeyer will place stitches to pull the muscles closer together to tighten your core and make your tummy flatter. Any areas of excess fat around the core can be treated with liposuction to improve your shape. Dr. Vennemeyer often performs circumferential liposuction around the waist and abdomen, which he calls 360 Lipo, as part of the mommy makeovers in Dallas he performs. This can provide more dramatic results than liposuction of the hips alone.
